i want to break free and go bowling

Bowling,

its been crazy. with just a few shows and tons of summer meandering going on. we did this covers thing at Coopers (our local bar that get’s full of real locals every weekend) (you know this town is like northern exposure crossed with twin peaks right?) – anyway, the covers thing was hilarious and seriously a little out of hand at times. we played some hectic material from ’sweet emotion’ to ‘blue monday’ to ‘cars’ to ‘enter sandman’ to ‘ she’s gone’. yes, that’s Hall and Oates. then ‘wyld tygers’ flattened everyone with ‘wind of change’ – crazy crazy nights people. a legitimate after show saw things get really weird later. i can’t go in to that here… so after no sleep we’re in traffic for 4 hours getting to the make out room in SF. That was not the best begining but you people who made it out for the sunday show kept us above water. thanks for that – despite the flaws and warts and all that mess of sound, so unique to that room, i loved playing that show. it also had the added bonus of witnessing Casual Fog and Two Sheds who are just completely on top of their game right now. Extra bonus was the Pleased reunion outside after the show. original 4 piece lineup. one place. one time only.

so to accompany the ‘great american stuff #1′ of last night (grilled cheese animal style with Ryan Donnelly and Jonathan Hischke at In n Out of Appian Way at 1am) tonight we went bowling in Sacramento with some very good souls… while there’s a sad sad world going on outside you can break free and hide in the crappy grease and friendly bonding of a bowling alley in the USA.

Bowling,

Experience the magic

Kings & Queens at the Magic Theatre

Our very dear friend Lee Bob Watson hosted a show at the Magic Theatre the other night was a joyous experience. Hanging out playing tunes with Dana, Adam, Thom and Lee & Michael is just good to do. We did acoustic style, full band. Smooth. Dig it.

So this week we’re playing some shows down in the city of San Francisco. It get’s cold there in summer. Anyway, here’s the details:

In an effort to not get too serious tomorrow (Saturday) we are playing a officially tongue-in-cheek covers show at Coopers up here in Nevada City. We’ve recruited the great Ehren Haas of Golden Shoulders for some amazing vocals and red hot guitar. Yes, we are known as Secret Weaponz.

Sunday 20th August: Make Out Room, SF 8pm with Two Sheds and Casual Fog – both of which are ridiculously hot live bands right now. Come for them and you’ll get a bonus of us.

Wednesday 23rd August: Hotel Utah, SF 8pm Benefit show for Parker Zane Allen – Acoustic set also featuring Casual Fog and ShivShark and a load of other amazing acts.

We’re excited to play so please join us if you’re feeling it.

In other news it appears that a few blogs have found our tunes this week and that is just fantastic. I love the way people can share and feel music all the way across the interweb these days. There is couple of things i should just set the record straight on; Kings & Queens was not previously The Pleased – i was in the Pleased that’s all. Good times. This band lineup is currently like this: Andi Good playing vox/wurlitzer keyboards & singing, David Torch hitting the sweet skinz, Jonathan Hischke pulling noise from a bass guitar and I do the guitar and singing. Rich Good, that’s me.

ok men and women of the world. that’s it. except to say don’t let summer pass you by. i almost did and just caught it in time… last night i fell asleep to BrightBlack. You should too.

Somethings happen in summer

So we are actually doing things here. Its just that the suns rays make it seem less important to record everything all the time on a computer system. I’m rather splendidly tired after a week of hard labour, heavy jamming working on Marc’s LP cover and general summer get-togethers, show-downs and lazings. So no lyrical waxing just some facts:

1 – We’re doing a few acoustic tunes on monday at the Magic Theatre up here in Nevada City. Its with the remarkably fantastic Lee Bob Watson and those Golden Shoulders so it’d be a waste to waste it. Check out the nice flyer Rochelle made:

Lee Bob and Kings & Queens in Nevada City, CA

2 -  There’s new tunes circling right now. Once we got them down we’ll play them at shows. I guess we need to release the old stuff too. We’re working on it.

3 – We are playing a silly covers show up here on Saturday. 1983 anyone?

4 – Two shows in San Francisco on the 20th (Makeout Room) and the 23rd (Hotel Utah) – both those places have great names so it should be cool.
