Day Two: Milwaukee
Furs / Mondays, originally uploaded by Rich in Orderly Manor.
It’s early and the great plains are beginning to emerge out the window of the bus. Today is our second longest drive of the tour; Milwaukee,WI to Boulder, CO. Darren’s staying awake at the wheel, i slept a good five hours but i don’t want to miss the scenery. I like the open space. Don’t care what people say about driving through the mid-west – i see barns, silos, rolling fields and green trees flashing past and i like it.
Last night was another good one. I’m not a huge fan of fully seated shows – seems like it cuts the energy a lot but the Pabst Theatre was great looking and great sounding if a little loud for me on stage. WHAT? never loud enough. Amps are sounding good but i think i’m using the LPB Boost too often so next show i’m forcing myself to keep that off unless is a true lead moment. I don’t wanna brighten the audience to death… Sister Europe was awesome tonight. Let me say that playing President Gas with the Psychedelic Furs is enormously enjoyable. I think i may have crossed the line of out-there with Dumb Waiters tonight – need to reel that back in a little.
Milwaukee is a cool town; seemed quiet but walking around there was tons of great architecture, the bridges, the river walk and the Bronze Fonz. Mars and I ran up the stairs of the City Hall as part of the 2009 M&R tour of US Civic buildings. Took a wander down to the art museum at sunset and found it deserted – great to walk around those buildings for a moment of silence before the evening’s noise. Met some good peoples here too – fun chatting with Jen, JB, Mike and Michelle. Also got to hang with the Mondays a bit today – totally cool bunch – no Shaun contact yet though. Saw a little more of their set today – Come on all ye Faithful! Love that there’s some Black Grape in there.
