Day 35: San Antonio, TX
San Antonio, TX, originally uploaded by Rich in Orderly Manor.
When i first saw the venue I thought i knew what we were in for. White Rabbit sits in the middle of a kind of run-down area and feels, well, kind of run down. Its happened before. It happened again; tonight was seriously amazing… awesome, loud, packed people pushing us along the entire set and great sound against all odds.
That great sound, at least for the audience, was down to Tricia Ellsworth. She’s been with the Furs since before me (2006 ish?) and is the main reason I don’t worry too much if things go wrong on stage. If we get weird sound up there, or something blows up or disappears it doesn’t really matter because Tricia has got us out front. So many times after the show i’ll ask people about the sound and they are beaming with enthusiasm for how clear and sweet sounding everything was… My pedal board and I try to ruin her job every night but i’m sure she know’s when i’m going to step on a bomb… Let’s face it the mixing engineer on rock shows are like another member of the band, without her I’d dread to think how the Furs would sound. From 45,000 people at Bennicassim, Spain, to the packed White Rabbit in San Antonio today, Tricia’s full day of checking audio systems, yelling into microphones, positioning mics, setting up drums, dealing with us at soundcheck, dealing with everyone at the venue and then performing the show is what keeps your ears happy. Anyway, next time you see her behind the mixing board, don’t distract her cause she’s super professional, but when the shows done you should all mob and her and tell her how great her show sounded.
Oh, and she did take me to that metal show on my birthday – what a doll.
