Reds and blues

24. October 2005 Playing 1

on friday night i found myself accidentally playing drums in a band. on stage. proper drum kit etc… this is not something that i would have done in my right mind but when handed a tambourine it seemed that less evil could occur with actual drums than with my ever-so-shakey-shaking action. Thanks to Radical Bros. for allowing that to happen. and thank god it actually went off ok. in fact, what a thoroughly enjoyable instrument drums are. i had always looked at Genaro and wondered how all that pressure of timing felt on stage in front of hundreds of ears. now i know. fear and concentration take over. Tongiht featured fine performances by the great Golden Shoulders and well-trousered Daisy Spot.

so saturday was a crazy day of cat illness and fine friend time. not a perfect time for a first show perhaps? but after some minutes of practice and a glass of wine i wound up playing a song or five for a small but wonderful audience at the Magic Theatre here in Nevada City. Its very red at the Magic and that’s cool. The Pleased played a couple of my favourite shows here back in 2003. Tonights highlight were hot lights rigged up by Max of the Radical Bros (truly wonderful performance coming to your town soon – checkit here: http://www.deathraymusic.com/radicalbros.html ). A set list: Fire Escape, Sign of Life, All in Favour, Untitled Lodidong, Scorched Sea

as an aside it seems that we’ve almost definietly decided upon Kings & Queens as the new project name. Never Never didn’t make it, neither did Black Royal, Low Fever or From the Morning. From the Morning was rather close. So I’ll inform ye of a myspace change, new website etc when i get that all set up. Thank the heavens i don’t need to think about band names anymore. Now i look to November 7 to return to studio and finish this thing.

a few pictures coming just as soon as our server recovers from Wilma.
