Day Twelve: Anaheim

We decide to hang at the Sportsmen’s Lodge hotel all day and try and recuperate from the last few days of geographic confusion and hearing loss with a spot of B-list star watching by the exceptional pool, and perhaps a margarita. All too quick its over and we’re heading over to the kingdom of magic.

The mouse let us in. The security process to get on to Disney property is the most ludicrous I’ve yet seen. We are sent to some strange little check-point in the middle of a parking lot, get out to show our id’s to the perfectly suspicious guard and issued with little passport stickers to the Kingdom. The flaw is that we then are sent back out to the public roads to get to the venue where we are checked in again by a jolly character with a Disney sheriff style badge and an over-zealous interest in the day’s football. He might be an extra from Snow White. Finally, we’re in and we’re back where the Pleased played its second show with the Furs back in 04… This place is, considering all the rigmarole to get in, not a happiest place to hang out. We avoid the dressing room as much as possible and wander the Disney-mall around us. It’s terrifying. We spend a huge amount of money on a couple of drinks where they assault us with approved dance tunes mixed in with the blues hollering of a busker on the street.

None of this affects tonights show; once again the Furs fans come out of the woodwork and we have a fine night with decent sound. Noah & Luck from the Pleased are here and we hang for a few minutes while the Mondays get it on. I meet a nine-year old girl who’s at her first ever show – i love that people bring their kids to see the Furs. Maybe they went on Big Thunder Mountain then hit the show…

I’m tired. Back to the hotel.
